Secure Scheduling Ordinance

Beginning July 1, 2017, Seattle has a new Secure Scheduling requirements for hourly employees who work at large food services and retail establishments within the Seattle city limits (SMC 14.22).  The ordinance will require businesses provide: Two weeks advanced notice of schedules Premium pay for changes after posting schedules, except when mass communication is used Extra pay when there is less than 10 hours between shifts Any available hours offered to existing employees before hiring more employees Check out the infographic below to learn more and download the secure scheduling poster at your convenience.  Continue reading

Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance (PSST)

The Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance (PSST) requires employers to provide paid sick and safe time for employees. PSST can be used for an employee’s absence from work due to illness, medical appointments, or a critical safety issue. The ordinance applies to all employers with more than four full-time equivalent employees. All employees are eligible for the new benefit, including full time, part-time and temporary workers.
