Secure Scheduling Ordinance

Beginning July 1, 2017, Seattle has a new Secure Scheduling requirements for hourly employees who work at large food services and retail establishments within the Seattle city limits (SMC 14.22). 

The ordinance will require businesses provide:

  • Two weeks advanced notice of schedules
  • Premium pay for changes after posting schedules, except when mass communication is used
  • Extra pay when there is less than 10 hours between shifts
  • Any available hours offered to existing employees before hiring more employees
