2017 Scholarship Recepients

Every year HSO selects one deserving role-model in the community as Miss Hispanic Seafair, based on her academics, community involvement, public speaking abilities and other essential skills. She's awarded with an academic scholarship to continue her studies, and a year filled with networking and career opportunities. In an effort to provide more scholarship and increase our community presence at Seafair and community events year round, Hispanic Seafair has opted to grant a scholarship to two different well-deserving young women.

It is our pleasure to announce the selection of our new Miss Hispanic Seafair 2017-2018, Axa Molina. Axa is a former Olympics-qualifying wrestler,  and current graduate student at Lindenwood University where she currently holds a 4.0 GPA.

The 2017 Hispanic Seafair Ambassador, Karen Gamez López is a student at the University of Washington. Karen’s extensive background in serving the underrepresented youth through programs such as LEAP, LSU and personal mentorship have earned her many awards including the Leadership Award and Diversity Award from GRCC.

Both young women will represent the Hispanic/Latinx community at the Seafair Scholarship Program for Women this summer, and we look forward to supporting them throughout the year.

As Miss Hispanic Seafair, Axa will:

  • Participate in the Miss Seafair Scholarship Program for Women, as a representative of HSO and the Hispanic Community.
  • Attend all Seafair community events during the month of July and August.
  • Make public appearances at community events throughout 2017-2018.
  • Be willing to help and volunteer at Hispanic Seafair Events.
  • Potentially travel to Mazatlan, Mexico for “Carnaval” where she will participate as an Ambassador for Washington.

As our Hispanic Seafair Ambassador, Karen will:

  • Be an ambassador for the ALIANZA Leadership Network. This is the first network, across WA State, of Latinxs, Chicanxs and Hispanix students creating change in their communities.
