Alianza Youth Leadership Program

Alianza Youth Leadership Program is a youth-led movement of collective voices connecting leaders to unlock their leadership potential and bring change to their communities. Through community organizing and training, Alianza aims to build the leadership of Latinx youth by providing them with a platform and resources to do so.

Our Values

Youth Centered: Youth lead on everything. Youth make decisions and lead the future of Alianza's programming.

Co-Leadership/Co-Creation: Sharing leadership through different experiences. Supporting and acknowledging that we all come from different backgrounds to achieve a common goal and vision.

Youth Taking Action: Youth are autonomous and resilient to lead, guide, and direct adults on what issues matter the most to them and their communities.

Leadership Activation: Inspiring youth to co-create and co-lead amongst their peers. And become self-autonomous in the process.

Civic Engagement as Strategy: Sharing and expanding knowledge that civic engagement is much more than just regular American Civics. Youth learn to create limitless engagement that connects to self-advocacy, community, and society.

Self-Care: Youth reconnect with their mind and body to encourage and normalize resting. Teaching youth that self-care is essential for leadership activation.

Broad Issue-Based: Youth issues are not just one. Youth make up the majority of a colonized system that excludes youth in decision-making. Alianza focuses on broad issues to dismantle the colonized system and co-create a new beginning without systems that are inaccessible to all youth.

Ongoing Opportunities

Volunteer

Through its partnerships and projects, Alianza provides several volunteer opportunities that aim at building leadership skills and expanding civic knowledge

Fellowships

Fellows take part in planning Alianza events for youth and civic engagement projects, and work on an annual summit, while also having the opportunity to learn real-world skills in their areas of interest

Advocacy Council

The Alianza Advocacy Council (AAC) is a group of youth ages 15 to 18 across Washington State dedicated to advocating for their communities. The council works together to discuss and address historical inequities, engage with their communities, and put together community events.

Alianza Advocacy Council's Resources for Substance Use

Our Advocacy Council Cohort of 2021-2022 created a list of resources for youth who need support with Substance Use:

Did you know that even though drug use in Washington state youth is on the decline, overdose deaths are higher than ever? Below, the King County Alianza Advocacy Council has compiled a list of resources for youth who may need harm reduction resources free of shame.

Alianza's Blogspot: Healthcare for Undocumented Individuals

The Alianza Leadership Hubs Cohort of 2023 was made up of young adults from across Washington State. They met weekly to discuss important issues and obstacles they saw in their communities at the time and decided to raise awareness about the barriers that Undocumented youth and families face when trying to access healthcare. As a response, the members of our Leadership Hubs decided to create a blog of lived-experiences of undocumented people who told their stories about the need of access to healthcare and insurance. Two people were interviewed and their stories
were shared on a digital blog and on a video that was projected during an in person event.
