Hope Plaza Plaza Esperanza was created to fill the crucial gap in multilingual community services for immigrant Latino and indigenous Guatemalan families in Mason County, WA. This county has one of the highest populations of Mam and Q'anjob'al indigenous immigrants in the U.S., and Latino students now make up the largest racial demographic in Shelton public schools.

Since launching in April 2024, Hope Plaza has expanded its services to support around 800 refugees, immigrants, and low-income individuals in the Shelton area. Founded by Maria Parra, a Mexican born in Texas and raised in Tijuana, Hope Plaza is led entirely by Latinas, with one-third of the Board being indigenous.

The organization collaborates with trusted leaders from the Mam and Q'anjob'al communities to ensure cultural relevance and language access. By leveraging informal networks, Hope Plaza trains community leaders as "System Navigators" to assist those in need. Its first intern is a young adult fluent in Mam, Spanish, and English.

Hope Plaza aims to provide comprehensive services addressing food security, housing, economic stability, immigration issues, health, youth development, and civic engagement.
